Why running pain persists
Running injuries are rarely solved by rest alone. Symptoms can be influenced by training load, recovery, strength, mobility, previous injury, running mechanics and how quickly the body has been asked to adapt.
Assessment considers the whole picture rather than focusing only on the painful area. The aim is to identify modifiable factors, settle symptoms where needed and progressively restore your tolerance to running.
Common running problems
• Achilles and calf pain
• Knee pain, including patellofemoral pain
• Shin pain
• Hamstring or hip pain
• Plantar heel pain
• Repeated muscle injuries
• Pain when increasing distance or speed
• Difficulty returning after injury or surgery
Your plan may include
• Clinical and functional assessment
• Review of recent training load and recovery
• Strength and movement testing
• Running mechanics assessment where appropriate
• Individual strength and conditioning programme
• Graded return-to-running plan
• Advice on progressing volume, frequency and intensity
Built around your goal
Whether you want to complete a first 5K, return to weekly running, prepare for a marathon or compete at a high level, the rehabilitation plan should match the actual demands ahead.
